JWT (JSON Web Token)

intermediate

Definition

A small, signed pass that an app gives you after you log in. You hand this pass back with every later request, and the server checks the signature to confirm it's really you: without having to look up your account each time.

In the wild

After you sign into a website, the server gives your browser a token. From then on, your browser quietly attaches that token to every request. So when you click 'My Orders,' the server knows it's you without making you log in again.
