Canary Release

advanced

Definition

A careful way to launch a new version: instead of giving it to everyone at once, you send it to a small group first and watch how it performs. If everything looks healthy, you let in more people. If problems show up, you stop the rollout before most users ever notice.

In the wild

A team is releasing a new checkout flow. On day one, only 5% of shoppers see it. The team watches for spikes in errors or complaints; everything looks fine. On day two they bump it to 25%, then 50%, then everyone: taking small, reversible steps along the way.
