OAuth Scope

Definition

The specific permissions you grant an MCP server when you connect it — for example, read-only access to mail versus full read-and-send. Scopes decide what the agent can even attempt: a read-only connection physically can't send or delete, which makes it a strong guardrail.

In the wild

You connect Gmail with a read-only scope while testing prompts, so even a misfired instruction can't send an email — it simply has no permission to.
