Ask What's Missing

When a request is vague, don't just forward the ambiguity to Claude. Identify what's unclear, make reasonable default decisions, and state your assumptions explicitly. This prevents Claude from guessing wrong.

Where you'll practice this

One Promptles scenario teaches this principle directly.

  • The Vague Feature Request

Your product manager sends you a Slack message: "Can we add search to the products page?" That's all you got. You have a `ProductList.tsx` component that renders products from an API. Before blindly prompting Claude, you need to figure out what's missing from this request.
