Rollback

beginner

Definition

Going back to the previous, working version of an app after a new release turns out to be broken. Being able to roll back quickly is what lets teams take chances on releases. They know any mistake can be undone within minutes.

In the wild

A team releases a new version of their app at 9 a.m. By 9:05, customer complaints are flooding in: the checkout button is broken. The team triggers a rollback, and within a couple of minutes the app is back to yesterday's working version. Then they investigate calmly.
