Cherry-pick

intermediate

Definition

Grabbing one specific change from somewhere else in the project's history and applying it to where you're working: without bringing along any of the other changes that came around it. It's how teams move a single fix into a place that needs it.

In the wild

A serious bug gets fixed in the team's main version of the app. There's an older version still running for some customers who haven't updated yet. The team cherry-picks just that one fix and applies it to the older version, leaving everything else in the older version untouched.
