Remote

beginner

Definition

A nickname for a copy of the project that lives somewhere else: usually on a shared server like GitHub. You work locally on your computer, then push your changes to the remote so teammates can see them, and pull from the remote to bring in their latest work.

In the wild

A team uses a single shared remote on GitHub. Each developer has their own copy on their laptop. When someone finishes a piece of work, they push it to the shared remote. And everyone else pulls from that same remote to stay in sync.
